Romanticize your life, what do I mean by this?
I loved watching Gossip Girl when I was a teenager (and am considering rewatching it while I am in my late twenties…). The rich girl life appealed to me and I loved seeing all those beautiful people with their pretty outfits living their fabulous lives.
Working life brought me back to reality. Unless you inherit tons of money, a rich life won’t be available to you at any time soon. My bubble burst a bit and I was disappointed that I had to live a regular life and work my ass off to have some money, like most people have to do.
But then I found the concept of ‘romanticizing your life’ on the internet and wanted to give that a go. If I can’t afford to spend my days as I please all the time, I might want to try to get a bit of glamour and girliness into every day. I appreciate the small things and focus on the things I love about my life.
And you can too! Romanticize your life following the tips I share below and see if your life will start to have more sparkle and magic to it.
10 Easy Ways to Romanticize Your Life
1. Be an artist with your food and drinks
Having a nice meal and drink can bring joy to your ordinary days. Eating the same cup of noodles won’t make anybody happy.
If you like cooking, learn some new recipes and surprise yourself with how awesome the result turned out! You are your personal chef. Try new things and create the perfect dishes you love to eat. This also goes for drinks, you can create your signature drink and enjoy the taste and esthetic of it.
Or if you hate cooking with passion, look for yummy microwavable meals in your supermarket or treat yourself to a restaurant visit or takeout now and then. Serve your takeout like you are at a restaurant to create an appealing meal.
Serving your food and drinks like you are at a bar or in a restaurant can be done quite easily if you have the right tableware.
The things I treated myself with this month were a couple of things: I recently bought stylish iced coffee glasses I saw everywhere on Instagram, I also bought a milk frother to make foam from my coffee and milk and of course round ice cube trays to make ice cubes for my iced coffees!
And I must say, my iced coffees look like I would order them in a coffee shop so I am very pleased with them, truly Insta-worthy!
2. Compose a great wardrobe and style yourself
You can also romanticize your life by dressing the part. I know nothing beats a comfortable pajama day, but not every day can be a pajama day, and it’s nice to dress up occasionally. Don’t you think so?
When you can dress yourself nicely, it can boost your confidence and make you proud when you see yourself in a mirror. Take a selfie while you are at it! If you like an outfit, the beauty should be captured!
Get yourself a good amount of basic clothing and some eye-catchers, so you can have plenty of combinations without having to have a walk-in closet for all of your clothes.
You can dress yourself up to feel better about yourself, feel more successful, and even get some compliments if people like your outfit! It’s nice to feel pretty!
3. Makeup and skincare routines
Healthy skin will help with building confidence and feeling great. Set yourself up with a skincare routine that works for your skin, because there are different skin types, like dry or oily skin, and many types in between those two.
If you want the best advice on a skincare routine to follow, I would suggest visiting a dermatologist to see which needs your specific skin has. Sometimes you might even benefit from a prescription if you have terrible acne or other medical skin issues. You could also go the try-and-error route and try some products to see if your skin reacts well to them or not.
The biggest skincare tip I can give you is to use sunscreen every single day, even in winter. It’s the best anti-aging product there is for your skin.
If you are a girly girl and love to put on make-up, you can also develop a makeup routine that works for you. Romanticize your life by setting up a place in your bathroom or bedroom and make it your makeup station, like if you were a celebrity getting her makeup done before shooting a movie!
Check out this awesome makeup desk if you consider getting yourself the Hollywood makeup station. It’s really pretty and has plenty of space to put all your products!
My go-to make-up routine for now is curling my eyelashes with a cheap but decent eyelash curler, putting on waterproof mascara, and calling it a day. But I would love to get more into doing makeup and improve my makeup skills.
Put on some music while getting ready and dance a little in between steps to have some fun with it!
4. Brighten your surroundings
Romanticize your life by changing the surroundings to your liking (as much as you can). You can do this brightening by picking out nice colors for your room/house and choosing a style of interior that matches your vibes and style.
Brightening your surroundings can be done with beautiful art you found online or at a store, or by placing a few plants here and there to give your room a little more life to it. This plant stand looks great and allows you to exhibit at least 5 plants vertically so it doesn’t take up too much space!
If you are terrible with plants but would love to have one in your room, consider getting a cactus or a succulent, they are almost (yes I said almost!) impossible to kill. Another plant that works great for most people but is a tad more difficult than a cactus is a pancake plant or pilea peperomioides. I prefer the aesthetics of a leafy plant over the cactus esthetics, but choose what fits your style best!
And if you are the type of person who can’t even keep a cactus alive, maybe consider getting yourself beautiful artificial plants to brighten up your place.
If you just moved to a new place, make a list of things you want to get for your new house and budget to buy them if you can’t afford them all immediately. It’s quite fun to add one thing one month and then add a new thing the next, as long as you keep progressing toward your dream life.
You can use sinking funds to save for your home decoration!
5. Listen to inspiring people
You can also brighten your surroundings more metaphorically by choosing the right people to hang out with. Try to include people in your life that you genuinely want to have there, who boost your self-esteem and are great to be around.
You could also listen to inspirational podcasts to boost your motivation in life. The people who you surround yourself with will make your life better or worse. Get some like-minded individuals to hang out with and do fun activities together.
Plan fun things together and write them down in your calendar so life won’t get in the way.
6. Get out there and explore
You should get yourself out there when you want your life to be more like a rom-com! I’m not only talking about boosting your dating life but also just getting engaged in activities outside of your house and meeting fun people along the way.
Do fun things, and have great experiences, experiences will always be better than having things in the long run.
Why don’t you try out a new hobby if you get bored with your everyday life? Change things up when life gets boring. You get to design your life, so do what you want to do and live to the fullest!
You can explore life on your own, but it’s most of the time more fun to do it together with someone else that you love, so try to share your experiences with a loved one, or invest some more time in your dating life to find your person to spend life with!
Romanticize your life by making it like a life out of the movies, filled with adventure next to your day-to-day obligations.
7. Reward yourself for reaching goals
Naturally, life can’t be all fun and games, everybody needs a job and earn money to live. However, you can set goals and reward yourself when you get closer to or reach them!
When you focus too hard on working and making money, without ever rewarding yourself, life might feel hard and not fun at all, I get that.
So look for the best of both worlds. Figure out how to save money but also treat yourself when you reach your goals. Treating yourself doesn’t always have to cost money, you can find a lot of cheap or even free self-care activities out there.
Life will be a lot nicer when you get rewards for your hard work and productivity! Envision yourself reaching the bigger goals you have in life and maybe get your inspiration from a vision board. Don’t dream about your dream life, plan it, work for it, and get there!
8. Look for opportunities to have fun in the ordinary
If you think about it, life can get very monotonous and boring when you work a 9-5 job and have great routines to make your day go as smoothly as possible. So don’t think too hard about it, but try to add a little fun to the ordinary to romanticize your life.
When you work a desk job and your surroundings are completely boring, change it up and make it more personal and fun. You could change the wallpaper on your laptop to a photo of your family or your favorite actor/musician. Get frequent little breaks to get some coffee or chat with some of your coworkers.
When an opportunity arises to do something that isn’t your job but seems kinda fun, jump on it!
You could also make your home office as cute as you can so that it’s a nice space to work and you love to sit there, it should be as inviting as possible.
Change up your routines from time to time and follow your curiosity, if something intrigues you, learn more about it and explore every opportunity.
I love having coffee as I mentioned earlier so I decided to turn myself into my at-home barista, it’s fun for me to create beautiful and delicious coffees as a break from work or Sunday morning.
9. Change your mindset
Sometimes you need to use your imagination and fantasy to create more of a dream life for yourself. Romanticize your life by changing the way you think about ordinary things.
Find beauty in your day-to-day life by focusing on the positives. Standing still and living in the moment will help you savor your experiences more. When you wake up in the morning and loathe going to work, get yourself excited for a fun part of your morning routine for example, and try to only think about work when at work.
Appreciate things you take for granted with gratitude practice, do it every single day to be more grateful about the life you have, and change it one thing at a time if you want improvements.
10. Get yourself your favorite things as often as you can
This looks a little like rewarding yourself for reaching goals, except, you don’t have to reach any goals for this! Romanticize your life by treating yourself like the most valuable person in your life.
Know that you are a queen B and deserve lovely things regularly, it doesn’t always have to come as a reward for achievements. You deserve to have your favorite things frequently.
Romanticize your life by doing your favorite things as often as possible. Get yourself those good skincare products and delicious snacks, and treat yourself to a massage or a long walk in the forest. Life is best when you do things you love.
