12 Inspiring Weekend Activities To Do in the Fall
1. Decorate your home
Every season you get the chance to decorate your home accordingly and right now, the fall theme is coming in.
You can make it extra cozy indoors since the days are getting shorter and the nights colder. Decorate your home with the colors orange, brown, green, red, and yellow to create a fall feeling in your home.
These little pumpkin decorations are great to leave all over the house, they are pretty small so keep that in mind but oh so cute!
You can easily create a more comfy environment by laying pillows around. Fall pillow covers make your sofa feel more autumny in one second, plus they are available in many different colors so you can switch them up every season to be in theme or even use different colors now to represent all the colors of Fall.
Decorating your porch or hall is also a fun way to welcome possible guests to your house. A ‘Hello Pumpkin’ doormat to lay in front of your front door says it all!
And don’t think you can be done with your fall decoration without adding some candles inside your house. This candle set of four fall-themed candles is a must-have if you love the scents of autumn.
Decorate your home for extra coziness and to love your indoors even more, since you are spending more time in your home, it’s a nice thing to do.
2. Learn to cook fall-inspired recipes
Fall is all about pumpkin- and cinnamon-flavored recipes! Some people adore these flavors, others, not so much, but don’t worry, there are fall-themed recipes for everyone!
A wonderful breakfast in fall or winter is a bowl of warm oatmeal, which you can flavor with cinnamon and sugar and maybe even add a little pumpkin spice. I love to have warm oatmeal with a piece of chocolate and some peanut butter (and let it all melt) but I won’t say no to a bowl of oatmeal with cinnamon-baked apple slices either.
Pimping your drink is also fun to do in the fall, with these same spices you can pimp your hot chocolate or coffee, or use syrups with these flavors to make it even more tasty. Brown sugar cinnamon syrup is a delicious flavor to add to your drinks or try this maple bourbon pecan flavored syrup to improve your morning coffee.
For the non-pumpkin and cinnamon fans, there are still plenty of fall recipes out there. The weather is getting colder so the food is getting hotter and more comforting. Things like casseroles and oven dishes are totally hot to make in this season.
3. Throw a Halloween party
When there are no fun weekend activities or events near you, you can throw them yourself!
Because yes, it’s the season of Halloween! If you are too old to go trick or treating, throw a Halloween party to celebrate this holiday!
Have a big party, invite a bunch of friends, dance, drink, and have Halloween entertainment, OR stay in by yourself or with a small group of friends and watch scary movies together.
Whatever is more up your alley, provide Halloween-themed snacks and drinks to make the party even more amusing. You can serve cranberry vodkas to resemble blood, Halloween punch, or a green acid-colored drink. This ‘pick your poison’ banner is really great to hang above the party drink station.
You can also bake pigs in a blanket to resemble mummies as a yummy snack or just order some pizza for everyone!
Halloween is all about dressing the scariest and wearing costumes to ward off ghosts (according to tradition) and having tons of fun while doing so.
4. Enjoy nature
Weekend activities don’t have to cost a thing, spending time in nature is free you know!
Seeing nature transform every season is a pleasure for the eyes, fall is a particularly beautiful season because nature keeps changing its colors throughout the entire season.
Savor this beauty and change in nature by doing a bike ride or going for a hike. Explore nature and come back every few weeks to capture its changes. Appreciate the miracles of nature.
At the beginning of fall, having a picnic can also be a fun activity to do with your family. Let everyone bring a few types of food and beverages and enjoy each other’s company sitting on a picnic blanket while relaxing in nature.
If the weather is okay, take advantage of the last days in fall before it’s winter and you want to be indoors most of the time because of the cold!
5. Reorganize your interior
The summer heat has finally come down so it’s the perfect time to renovate or reorganize a room thoroughly without breaking too much sweat.
Since everyday life can get boring pretty quickly and it’s not fun looking at the same things day in and day out, it’s time to change things up!
Pick a room that you want to redo completely and put all your energy into it this weekend. Reorganizing your house can count for many weekend activities if you want to reorganize the whole thing!
If a total makeover isn’t what you are looking for, you can just adjust a few details that will make it look new and fresh too.
Reorganization can go from organizing your drawers to be more efficient and tidy, to rearranging furniture for a different look. Plastic drawer organizers can make a big difference organization-wise, they work great to organize the kitchen, office, and bathroom.
I would suggest doing it one room at a time so that you won’t get overwhelmed and can focus on one thing for the weekend and do a great job. You can fix another room for another weekend if that’s something you want to do.
6. Having a fall photoshoot
Having a fall photoshoot is one of the great weekend activities you can do in the fall to take advantage of the beautiful decor.
This doesn’t have to take the whole weekend, but you can prepare yourself by getting and putting together nice outfits, doing your hair and makeup, or that of your models. It’s always fun to have some photos of your family, so get together to make lasting memories.
If you are a dog mom or dad, you could also go into the forest to take amazing pictures of your dog in the beautiful fall landscape and have a walk with him at the same time.
And if you don’t have a dog, but have a big love for them, you can go with your camera to a forest and you might see dogs with their owners. Ask the owners nicely if you could take some pictures, they probably will allow it and you have a fun moment with their dog!
You can also take pictures of nature only, these pics can be pretty great too if you are a nature lover.
7. Game night/weekend
Permit yourself to have a weekend full of fun playing games by yourself or with some friends! If you have other responsibilities and can’t imagine spending the whole weekend gaming, allow yourself to have an amazing game night then.
Weekend activities can include all kinds of gaming, playing board games and computer games, whichever you fancy most, or even alternating between the two to have even more fun!
Ask some friends or family members to come over, put snacks out, fizzy drinks all the way, and feel like a kid again. 🙂
You can also make it a gaming competition, where you keep a score of who wins how many games and present a prize to the winner.
Some board games that I love to play are Wingspan and Paleo (Both age 10+), they are very engaging and have the most beautifully designed game boards.
When you want more of a party game, I would suggest Card Against Humanity (Age 17+), it’s a fun game that doesn’t require you to read 10 pages of instructions before you can start playing.
8. Holiday shopping or brainstorming gift ideas
You might think that it’s a little early to start buying Christmas presents, but time flies when you have a busy life. Plus if you already know what gifts to buy, it’s best to do it before the holiday shopping starts because some stores might jack up the prices when it gets urgent and everyone needs to buy presents with a tight deadline!
So have a brainstorming session this weekend about what gifts you could buy and for who you need to find great fitting presents. When you do this now, you can even try to get some tips from your relatives without it seeming too obvious for what it is.
Make a gift list so you know which presents you already bought and the ones you still have to buy.
When you know what to get, start shopping and wrap those presents that you are sure will do great with your relatives and friends.
If you want some inspiration, I wrote a blog post with plenty of ideas for amazing gifts for the introverts in your life.
You can find another blog post with the best gifts for your mother on my blog too. Get inspired and surprise your relatives with the most thoughtful gifts this year, not last-minute ones.
9. DIY/Creative weekend
Let your creativity come out in a weekend filled with DIY projects!
As you probably know, DIY means ‘do it yourself‘ so it’s most of the time a lot of arts and crafts that come with doing DIY. If you don’t know what you want to make, look for inspiration on YouTube. When you type in: DIY projects, you get plenty of suggestions from YouTube such as DIY projects for the garden, DIY projects to do at home, DIY projects bedroom, DIY projects easy… the list goes on.
There are so many things you can create so you won’t get bored by trying things over the weekend, getting your creative juices flowing. You can also get creative with writing, painting, making music, dancing, drawing, pottery, photography, jewelry making, candle making… plenty of weekend activities in the creative section!
If you like painting but lack the inspiration on what to paint, you might want to give painting by numbers a go, this paint-by-numbers kit is great for beginners and is truly beautiful.
Getting your creativity on can help you to relax and let the stress of the workweek flow away into your creations.
Everyone has some type of creativity, so get yours activated and enjoy yourself, you don’t have to become the next Picasso, just have fun with it.
10. Cozy weekend under a blanket
Sometimes all you need to do is do nothing for the entire weekend. You deserve some rest! This especially goes for the introverts who need to recharge their social battery they let die during the workweek. Recharge that social battery with a cozy weekend at home!
Weekend activities can be slow and relaxing activities like starting your day off by having a slow morning while you enjoy your breakfast with a nice cup of coffee or tea. Moving over to the couch to read for a few hours in your favorite books and get comfortable under a cozy blanket.
If you are not into reading, you probably love watching good shows on the television or on your computer so you might do that to relax and do absolutely nothing that’s not necessary.
Enjoy a cozy weekend under a blanket in fall time and you might also want to do this in winter, those dark days are truly asking for it!
11. Celebrate Thanksgiving with your family or friends
With Thanksgiving, the fall is almost coming to an end, take your time to celebrate it with your family as it’s a family-celebrated holiday. The gift brainstorming as I mentioned earlier might also come in handy for this holiday!
Weekend activities should always include family time if you love your family. Your family is there to cherish and make wonderful memories with that you will remember forever.
You could host the Thanksgiving dinner at your place and maybe change up the location every year so the burden of hosting doesn’t always fall on your neck. Cook an amazing dinner or order a catering service to do this for you if you’re not that great of a cook. You could also ask every family member to pitch in and bring a part of the dinner so that everyone helps out.
Be thankful for having a wonderful family and spending these moments together. And don’t forget to be grateful for your gifts, even though you might not like them that much.
If you find yourself without a loving family, celebrate Thanksgiving with your chosen family instead, of your friends! Get yourself this Friendsgiving Cookbook if you want inspiration on what to make to celebrate together and to impress your friends with your cooking!
12. Create an exercise routine for fall/winter
Weekend activities might also include exercising! Keep your body healthy by moving it every day and add a few sweat sessions throughout your week.
Since most people are busy during the weekdays, the weekend is the perfect moment to do your workout routines. In summer, your workout regime might look totally different from the one you have in the fall or winter because it’s dark so much earlier and way colder.
Create an exercise routine for the fall and winter that you actually could stick to, so you keep your body moving for your physical but also your mental health!
This can be looking for a way to exercise indoors when you are used to running or biking outdoors or establishing a more gentle routine with some yoga or pilates that you can do from your bedroom, all you need is a yoga mat to do so!
Or you can find your way to a local gym if you want to keep doing the same outdoor sports but from a safe inside environment.
